How to Prepare for a Maternity Shoot in Ibiza

A maternity shoot is different from any other photoshoot you will ever do. It is not a moment to look good for the outside world but it is a moment to remember. To pause and acknowledge what is happening in your body and your life, and to capture that forever.

Ibiza adds something special to that. The light, the nature, the atmosphere of the island: it gives maternity images a warmth and timelessness that is hard to find anywhere else. And precisely because this is such a personal moment, it pays to prepare well. Not to make everything perfect, but to be as present as possible.

The timing of your shoot has a big impact on how you feel and how you look in the photos. Most women feel their best and look most visibly pregnant between week 28 and 34. Early enough to still move comfortably, late enough for that beautiful round bump to be clearly visible.

When to Plan a Maternity Shoot in Ibiza

Before we get to styling and locations, preparation starts with a simple question: what feeling do you want the images to convey?

Some women want something soft and intimate: just the two of them, or with their partner, in the golden evening light. Others want something powerful and free: the energy of a woman in full bloom against a breathtaking location. Others want to capture the joy and calm of this moment, together with their children or partner.

There is no right or wrong answer. But the clearer you are on this, the better I can put together a shoot that truly feels like yours.

Thinking About the Atmosphere You Want to Capture

Clothing can make or break a maternity shoot. The good news is that you do not need to overthink this. A few guidelines that always work:

Choose soft, flowing fabrics that gently embrace the bump without feeling tight. Clothing that is uncomfortable shows in your posture and energy. Loose, airy outfits with movement in the fabric look beautiful in the Ibiza light.

Colours like white, beige, sand and soft pastels give a timeless and warm result. Bold colours or busy prints draw attention away from the highlight of the shoot: you and your bump.

With the smallest package time is fairly tight, so choose one outfit that you truly love and feel comfortable in. With the more extensive packages there is room for multiple looks, which creates more variety in the images.

What to Wear for a Maternity Shoot

Many women wonder about this and I completely understand. A maternity shoot feels intimate and personal, and the question is whether you want to share that or keep it just for yourself.

Both choices are beautiful. A solo shoot is a powerful statement: you, your body, this moment. A shoot with your partner captures the connection that brought you both to this point. And if you already have children, those images are priceless later: the moment they hold your bump or talk to it, captured forever.

Whatever you choose, discuss it in advance so we can tailor the shoot accordingly.

Bringing Your Partner or Children

This is perhaps the most important part of the preparation. A maternity shoot asks for surrender: the willingness to show how you look right now, even on days when you do not feel your best.

Many pregnant women struggle with this. The body changes quickly and not always in ways you are used to. But that change is exactly what makes this shoot so special. Ten years from now you will look at those images and not see your insecurities but you will see the strength and beauty of what your body has done.

Come rested and without rushing. Wear something that makes you feel good. And trust that I will create the kind of atmosphere where you feel at ease quickly.

Mental Preparation: Allow Yourself to Be Present

How long does a maternity shoot take?
A standard maternity shoot lasts between 45 minutes and 2 hours depending on the package. That is enough time to settle in, visit a location or two and build a varied set of images.

Does my partner need to join?
That is entirely your choice. I photograph both solo shoots and shoots with a partner and any children. We discuss this in advance so the shoot is tailored to what you want.

Do I need to choose a location myself?
No, you do not. I know the island well and choose the location that best suits you and the atmosphere of the shoot, based on the concept, the timing and the light.
